60km/h West Melton Speed Zone
Waka Kotahi has today announced the outcome of their community consultation regarding traffic speed limits through West Melton on State Highway 73.
From October 12 the permanent speed limit in this stretch of road will be reduced from 70km/h to 60km/h.

The West Melton District Residents Association fully supports this change, allowing for more calm transit of vehicles through this busy corridor and particularly the intersection with Weedons Ross Road. The change will make for safer passage of vehicles turning into and crossing the highway as well as pedestrians and cyclists crossing between north and south sides of West Melton.
The Residents Association is looking forward to the full upgrade of this intersection to a light-controlled type with pedestrian crossing signals. This work is currently scheduled to begin towards the end of 2021.
More details on the speed zone change are available here.
