Planting Day at Kirrin Island Reserve

We’re replanting a section of the Kirrin Island Reserve this Saturday May 21 and we’d love you to come join us.

Re-planting area, Preston Downs

Inspired by feedback from last year’s community survey, we’ve made arrangements with Selwyn District Council to run a community planting day to restore an area of this popular reserve, targeting a garden bed area where the original plants have not taken and are not doing so well. For a just a few hours mucking in, we’ll create a space for many to enjoy in years to come.

The wider aim is to build habitat for birds within our town by establishing areas of native bush, just like the Te Ara Kakariki project which is establishing ‘green dots’ across the Canterbury Plains.

So come on down and join in the fun. Selwyn District Council are kindly providing the plants and expertise and snacks and refreshments are being provided by our friends at Najib Real Estate. All you need to bring is a spade, and pair of gloves and some closed-toe shoes or gumboots.

Meet at the old water tower, corner Shepherd and Preston Ave, 9am – 12pm Saturday May 21.
